Repair, books, Identification and other aids

We are authorized to reproduce sewing machine manuals and related items. We reproduce the entire printed manuals with OUT our watermark on each page. Due to popular request; smaller manuals are now being enlarged and printed, full sheet size. Our customers with mature eye sight love this change and say that they are much easier to read and that the illustrations are easier to see, too. Please note that this change will affect the illustration which says that this is the size needle that your machine uses.

We can now get them into the download able PDF format and will enter them in the site when we get requests for them. Just email us and ask for what you need. We only have about a thousand more manuals and a great many other things to get entered into the site, so if you do not see what you are looking for, please email and ask us for it.

smm1002

Authorized reproduction entire Hasluck book of repair information dated 1905. This item is the entire 1905 book by Paul Hasluck titled Sewing Machines their Construction, Adjustment and Repair. It covers sewing machines that you would have expected to find in that era and earlier ones like ones with curved needles, chain stitchers, vibrating and boat shuttles, oscillating shuttles and even some industrial machines. Some examples of the machines in the book are the Singer models 12, 24, 27, Singer Improved Family, Wheeler and Wilson 4, Howe and Bradbury. It covers attachments to the machines like hand cranks, bobbin winder and some of the many presser feet too. There are quite a few nice illustrations in it. Our reproduction of this manual has been professionally laser printed in high quality grayscale. The pages are coil bound so it will lay flat when opened and it has protective plastic covers. NOTE: Postage, delivery confirmation and insurance is included in this items listed price, when it is sent to a USA address.

This is a review of this item from Kevin, one of our favorite customers; This book was put together from a weekly column written by the author. It does flow well however. The beginning of the book describes how sewing machines function in general, and provides details on several types of machines in particular. There is an interesting section about the oscillating rotary shuttle and how it works. There is a good deal written on working and adjusting all types of sewing machines. There is a very detailed section on dealing with adjustments for broken needles, broken threads and missed stitches. Much is written on repairing these old machines including fixing and repairing them yourself where parts are hard to come by. This covers adding life to worn shuttles, feed dogs and much more. There is a detailed chapter on many attachments and auxiliary devices including hand cranks, bobbin winder assemblies, ruffler, pleating device and tuck marker. There is also a section on tailor's high speed machines which covers repairs and adjustments. Some of the machines which are given focused attention for repairing and adjusting include the W&W #4 machine, W&W D10 machine, Singer transverse (reciprocating) shuttle machine, vibrating shuttle machines, Winselmann's vibrating shuttle, leather sewing machines, twin needle machines, button holer machines, curved needle revolving hook machines, Howe machines (old and newer), Weir machine, Singer oscillating machines, and Bradbury machines. Additionally, much of the data is discussed in such as way as to cover many other variants of these types of machines. The book includes a table of contents and an index.

smm2021

Authorized reproduction entire Urquhart book of repair information dated 1881. This item is the entire 1881 book by J. W. Urquhart titled Sewing Machinery a Practical Manual of the Sewing Machine. It covers sewing machines that you would have expected to find in that era. They are the earlier ones like those with curved needles, chain stitchers, vibrating and boat shuttles, oscillating shuttles and there is even some sewing machine history. Some examples of the machines covered in the book are Howe, Singer models 12 and 13, Wheeler and Wilson, Grover and Baker, Little Wanzer and Weir. It is a rare find and there are quite a few nice illustrations in it. Our reproduction of this manual has been professionally laser printed in high quality grayscale. The pages are coil bound so it will lay flat when opened and it has protective plastic covers. NOTE: Postage, delivery confirmation and insurance is included in this items listed price, when it is sent to a USA address.

This is a review of this item from Kevin, one of our favorite customers; This book starts out with a very in-depth and fascinating run at telling the history of the sewing machine. The author starts with Elias Howe, moves on to Allen Wilson, and then finishes with James Gibbs. Mr. Gibbs account was provided to the author by Mr. Gibbs himself. This section alone was worth the cost of the book in my opinion. The book covers the basic elements of a sewing machine in great detail, The newer Howe sewing machine is given a chapter which could easily be used as a operators manual for the Howe sewing machine. The W&W early models, including the #4 are given a similar detailed accounting. The W&W 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8 machines are also covered, including operating instructions and parts diagrams. The W&G chain stitch machine is also given the same detailed descriptions. The W&G automatic tension is covered in depth here along with how it works and why it works so well. There is a section on adjusting all of these machines, but to the depth you will not find in any singer manuals that I have seen. Polishing, grinding, replacing, adjusting, timing, testing are all covered in great detail. The book also includes a troubleshooting section which covers thread breaking (silk and regular), missed stitches, irregular stitches and noise. The book includes a special section on adjusting the Singer machines, which back in that day comprised of the "Family" and the "Medium" size machines. There are also special adjusting and testing sections for the Grover and Baker machines, the Little Wanzer machine, and the Weir machine. The book includes a table of contents and an index.
